I design information that helps people get real value from complex software. For over a decade in technical communication, I’ve built content models and documentation for products where the hard part is making the complicated feel clear. I work as a user advocate—listening for where people struggle and what they’re actually trying to do, then turning that into enablement that drives adoption. My approach is curious and visually literate, shaped by a long habit of reading, history, and typography.

Today I’m a Senior User Assistance Developer at SAP, working on digital manufacturing across cloud and edge computing. Before that I led localization strategy at Illumina and worked in brand naming, PR, and marketing communications. The through-line across all of it is the same: taking something dense and specialized, and making it usable.

Reading, history, typography#

That last habit isn’t decoration. For years I’ve written—under the pen name 華生 (Watson)—about book design, typography (字體排印), the history of Chinese and Western type, bookstores, and the places I’ve read and travelled through. It’s where the “visually literate” part of my work comes from, and where I think out loud about how information should look and feel on a page.

Those essays live on this site under Blog. The earliest ones date back to 2009; they’re personal, occasionally unpolished, and written in both Chinese and English. If the portfolio shows what I do professionally, the blog shows how I think.
